My name is Jonathan Brown and I was born in Bogota, Colombia. I was adopted when I was only a few months old and grew up in East Bridgewater Massachusetts. I am studying at the University of Rhode Island to acquire my degrees in Secondary Education, Biology, and General Science. My passions include writing, drawing, acting, and film making. In my spare time I am working on the first book of a trilogy of fiction novels.
In this unit, students will explore how the structure of DNA allows it to function as the basis of heredity. Students will go on to learn about how DNA is organized into genes that are translated into proteins, and how these genes are passed from parent to offspring. Various types of heredity will be investigated, including both Mendelian and Non-Mendelian inheritance patterns. Students will finish their discovery of genetics by studying various genetic disorders as well as karyotypes and pedigrees.
